This very first stage of the Maarten van Rossumpad starts at the station of beautiful 's Hertogenbosch. You walk into the old center in a few minutes, with the beautiful centuries-old houses, small alleys, cozy terraces and of course the famous water of the Dieze. You will soon see the 73-meter-high

You reach Borkum by ferry and travel from the harbor on the Borkumer Kleinbahn to Bismarckstrasse station, the starting point of this leg. From the station, you walk into the quiet town center. You'll pass Haus Tüürling, the oldest house on the island, and a fence made of whalebone, a reminder of times

You begin this stage in Midsland aan Zee and immediately walk onto the wide North Sea beach. The first section runs along the beach, where you'll have plenty of space and will sometimes be almost alone. Along the way, you'll pass several beach pavilions, handy if you want to stop for a cup of coffee

This alternative stage starts at the beach at De Marlijn. Please note that this route is only accessible outside the breeding season (from April 15th to July 15th). From the first path, you immediately enter the dunes: a peaceful area with wide paths and low vegetation.

This final leg of Ameland is a fairly long, varied hike that takes you from the east coast back to Nes. You start at the beach at Buren aan Zee and soon enter the dunes. This part of the island consists of high dunes and open valleys. It's a dynamic area where wind and sand still play their part.
