Havrani Skaly. The Raven Stones. A rock formation with a vantage point with a great view of Sloup and the Kleis

      March 24, 2024

The Raven Stones, according to a legend according to which the evil knight Krako kidnapped the neighbor's daughter, was struck by lightning, went to the rock, and so did his companions: to the Raven Rocks. These Havraní Rocks are a group of seven rock towers standing side by side.

From the small rock massif one has a beautiful panorama. It is easy to reach even with children interesting.

The Havraní skály (Raven Rocks) are a group of seven sandstone towers rising from a small, only about 300 m long sandstone ridge, about 1 km north of Radvanec and 2 km east of Nový Bor. The peaks of some of these rocks, which are up to 20 m high, rise above the surrounding forests and thus provide a view of the surrounding area. According to legend, the largest and highest rock (371 m) served as the place of execution for the Sloup Castle in the 17th century. In 1829, Count Karl Kinsky had its summit made accessible by a sandstone staircase carved into the rock. From the vantage point on the summit you can see the forested mountains surrounding Sloup, to the south the Špičák near Česká Lípa (Leipa Spitzberg) rises above the surroundings and in the distance on the horizon you can see the elongated Vlhošť (Wilhost) with the pointed Ronov (Ronberg). To the west lies Nový Bor (Haida) with the Chotovický vrch (Kottowitzer, Lusatian Mountain), behind them the Česká skála (Tscheschkenstein) near Prácheň (Parchen) and to the northwest the striking cone of Klíč (Kleis).
