The installation is the translation of a pun: "walking" in Dutch means "kuieren", which contains the word "Uier" (= udder). Then as now, the black and white spotted cows shape the landscape in Flanders.
The udders are monuments to the new cultural techniques introduced by the new settlers in agriculture. The four teats of each udder stand for the close correlation that the four "elements" udder, cow, nature and human have with each other. The different udder stain stands for the individuality of humans and nature.Source: kunst-land-hoher-flaeming.de/int.-kunstwanderweg/kunstwerke/wettbewerb-an-der-sdoute.html
