The Church of St. Michael is located in the Kurzen Str. 13 in Göttingen in the immediate vicinity of the traditional restaurant "Zum Schwarzen Bären". It is one of the inner-city churches that can be seen from the Four-Church view.
On a corner facing the street, there is a striking bronze chapel of the Archangel Michael, created by Josef Baron and attached there in 1986. The church of St. Michael himself was inaugurated in 1789.

This church in Göttingen was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the saints calendar is September 29th.

The parish church of St. Michael is the only catholic church in the old town of Göttingen. The facade is baroque, but the interior is very modern.
