Diest town hall was built between 1726 and 1731 in classicist style according to plans by Willem Ingnatius Kerricx. The bays in red brick with cross-frame windows are separated by white sand-lime brick. The whole is surmounted by a wide pediment that bears the city coat of arms.
In 1948 the whole was given a new platform with an impressive staircase. The substructure from the 14th century is Gothic and made of Diest iron sandstone. The Municipal Museum is housed under the town hall. This contains precious historical art treasures.

In 1337 there was the first mention of an alderman's house in Diest, near the St. Sulpitius Church and adjacent to the "Hofstadt" museum, which is located below the current town hall.
