De Halve Maan in Diest is a provincial domain that is known to many for its open-air swimming pool with sandy beach in the summer. But there is much more: walk around the lovely rowing ponds (where you can also row sometimes), say hello to the donkey and other goats in the small animal farm, let the kids romp around in the many playgrounds or organize an adventure with a group in the impressive high ropes course, the list is long. And you are never far away from the city and nature with the Webbekomse Broeken and its visitor center nearby. The playgrounds also have a few things that inevitably have to do with water and there are also quite a few animals to be seen. And it doesn't stop there. But you can also just include it in a walk around/in Diest and beyond or walk/jog in and around the domain as many residents do. The name “Halve Maan” refers to Diest’s military past. As a fortified city, the Halve Maan was part of the 19th-century defensive belt around Diest, which was supposed to protect the city from a possible invasion from the Netherlands. In military terms, a Halve Maan is the outer work of a fortress, located in the main moat, which owes its name to its shape.Source: diest-online.be/halve-maan

Recreation area of 50ha.
The park takes its name from the 'lunette', part of the nineteenth century defensive belt around the city.
