Coincidentally made a short walk in Herentals.
Left from the hospital in Herentals at the old hospital and then along the banks of the Kleine Nete to the fish ladder. The fish ladder was built to give fish the opportunity to pass the 1.5 meter high weir via 5 waterfalls. Very nicely done exactly the Ardennes in the Kempen! Kayaks and canoes are also rented at this place with which you can sail down the Kleine Nete. Then it goes a little further along the small Nete and the path goes to the Begijnhof of Herentals, after a short tour it then continues to the Augustijnenlaan next to the beguinage park where our short tour ends. It is only a short tour but it is beautiful, you do not expect that much pure nature right in the center of Herentals!

We continued our religious tour and today took a walk around the basilica of Scherpenheuvel. For most of us this is not so unknown, everyone has already been at least once in Scherpenheuvel. Now in Corona times it looks a bit different! Otherwise you could run over during this period. We start our tour at the church in Zichem Indeed the Zichem of "De Witte van Zichem" is known by everyone! The first 2 km of the tour do not mean much, are not really interesting, then it gradually becomes more interesting and you get close to Scherpenheuvel. Once there you suddenly have eyes short, Stalls with all kinds of trinkets, The well-known windmills and not to forget the pepernoppen!
Terraces on every corner and a multitude of seniors who made it a day trip! Unfortunately, the well-known 62 meter deep well was closed because of Corona, this is a disappointment because this well attracts many visitors in normal times. The Basilica itself can be visited daily and is definitely recommended! Then the tour continues along rolling fields, meadows and very beautiful hiking trails back to Zichem where we first pass the virgin tower.

The walk starts at the Saint Benedictus Abbey of Achel, often also called the Achelse Kluis, it is a Cistercian abbey partly on Belgian and partly on Dutch territory. After a short visit, which actually does not have much content, because there is little to see in terms of beautiful historic buildings), we start our tour, which is located 99 percent in the Netherlands. Then we fall from one surprise to another, the natural beauty that you encounter here is unbelievably beautiful! We walk about 10 km through a beautiful area, nowhere a house nowhere a road only immense heaths of unparalleled beauty! The abbey terrace on arrival is a pleasant place very well maintained, cozy and in terms of price-quality is certainly fine. For us, this is definitely a hike that definitely deserves 5 stars!
We think this is highly recommended!

This walk is not really a nature walk
but more of a enjoyable tour. He starts at the town hall of Westerlo and continues from here to the abbey of Tongerlo. Here you have the opportunity to stroll around the abbey or taste a delicious artisan ice cream, a pastry or the best award-winning beer in the world “the Tongerlo Prior” in a very special place (called the Lekwei). This is a spacious park. with a beautiful fountain and located in the backyard of the Torenhof "also belongs to the abbey"
The leak meadow is only 200 meters from the abbey and is highly recommended! Then the tour continues about 3 km through the Beeltjens. De Beeltjes is a forest area and the pride of Westerlo and continues along the youth hostel the forest ranger house, where you have the opportunity to relax or have a drink. Then it is 600 meters to the parking lot.

What we can say about this tour is the following put on your walking shoes and get started !!! You can hardly find a nicer tour in the Kempen! On this entire tour you will not come across a house without pure nature, predominantly moorland and coniferous forests. These trails are really top level! The stop at the abbey gives this tour an extra value. The Abbey cafe Het Moment is an absolute must very well maintained and beautifully situated with beautiful views of the abbey. Our tip is, departure by tension. The oak then your possible break at the abbey is approximately in the middle of the tour and you can possibly consume something on arrival in Den eik, this is also a highly recommended brasserie. This is definitely a 5 star tour !!!
But don't do it at 37 degrees like today!

Pleasant walk around Postel, especially the Norbertine Abbey is definitely worth a visit. Here is also a beautiful herb garden. Don't forget to buy abbey bread here! You certainly do not have to be hungry or thirsty here. There is a large terrace at gasthof de beiaard and another smaller one across the street. Then the walk continues along and through the nature reserve "The round pit" the 169 Ha large natural pond The round pit is really grand and from a bird watching hut you have a beautiful view of the many water birds.
