The memorial stone reminds of Alt-Dettenheim. The place is not far from the Rhine and the floods repeatedly flooded the place. In 1813 the place was moved to Altenbürg and renamed Karlsdorf. There are still a few houses and the “Zum Löwen” inn, but it has been closed for 10 years. There used to be a brick factory in the village.

The fascinating history of this place is covered in detail on Wikipedia.
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt-DettenheimThe village of Dettenheim, like many other villages in the Rhine lowlands before the straightening of the Rhine, suffered the same fate as many other villages. It was displaced by the Rhine (this one in 1813) and rebuilt elsewhere.
You can find information about the straightening of the Rhine here, for example: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheinbegradigung
