The pig fountain in Zons is certainly one of the must-see attractions in the old town. Admittedly, it doesn't actually come from the Middle Ages, but from 1959 and was created by the sculptor Bernhard Lohf. The pig fountain takes up the historical occurrence of the so-called "Zons pig feud" from the year 1575/1577, in which soldiers of the then Cologne Archbishop Salentin von Isenburg stole the Zons pig herd, consisting of 50 pigs.

At this point / I would like to quickly / say something about the source,
where it corresponds to the art of poetry / if this 'source' is a 'well':
To quote the incomparable humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909 - 1979), who was known to a wide audience for his word jokes and "Noch'n poem", with a short quatrain:
"There is certainly much beauty in
on the element, the wet.
Because you can drink the water.
But you can - also leave it."

Herbert Labusga's five bronze pigs were added in 1987. The fountain is reminiscent of the Zons "pig feud", the robbery of the Zons pig herd by soldiers of the Archbishop of Cologne Salentin von Isenburg in 1577 in connection with the dispute with the Cologne cathedral chapter, to which Zons was pledged. The victorious Zonsians did not get back the pigs, as the inscription on the side indicates, but the equivalent in money.Viewers have to study the work of art more closely in order to understand it. The pig well is a magical attraction for children. Here is climbed, felt, stroked and ridden. If Mom and Dad then get another ice cream at the Italian, everyone is happy.

Funny "mess" and a nice photo motif 😉
Created in 1959 to commemorate the Zonser Schweinfede. In the 16th century, soldiers of the Archbishop of Cologne confiscated the Zonser herd of pigs because there was a dispute about the customs deposit. The Zonser didn't put up with that and went to court. They were right there – they didn't get their pigs back, but they did get money.

Very nicely designed. There is a very good restaurant nearby, although Zons has plenty of alternatives
