Zons is located on the Lower Rhine near Dormagen in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, almost exactly in the middle between Düsseldorf and Cologne, and welcomes more than 700,000 visitors every year, and the trend is rising. On the other side of the Rhine is Düsseldorf-Urdenbach. Both places are connected by a ferry connection across the Rhine. Zons am Rhein is one of the few uniquely preserved medieval towns with a very well-preserved fortification from the 14th century, and is therefore often called the Rothenburg of the Rhineland.
