The Zech'sche Palais in the Merseburg palace district was built in 1782, probably based on plans by Johann Wilhelm Chryselius. Between 1825 and 1895 the building was the seat of the provincial administration of the Prussian province of Saxony. Today the house is used as a hotel.Source: architektur-bildarchiv.de/image/Zech%27sches-Palais-Merseburg-28400.html

After the move from the nearby Schlossgartensalon, the Zechsche Palais served from 1837 to 1894 as a meeting place for the assembly of the estates of the province of Saxony (provincial parliament). From 1840, the urge for political rights and freedoms also reached the Estates Assembly. Since the revolution of 1848/49 had not achieved its goals, the representatives of the estates remained in existence, but fell into a state of largely insignificance. It was not until Bismarck's Provincial Order of 1875 that a largely parliamentary system was established in the activities of the Provincial Parliament. From 1895 it met in the neighboring Estates House.
