Hinterhermsdorf Pt.1 — Niedere Schleuse, Brüdersteine, Lindigtblick, Waldhusche

Hinterhermsdorf — that sounds like a promise: for us, that means paths not yet trodden, valleys and forests, where every deer track is not yet as familiar to us as in other parts of Saxon Switzerland.

And after the seclusion of the Balzhütte already lured us this year, it's time to close this last blind

After seeing it at least three times from the Vercors, we can't resist and drive 'over' to the real mountains again.

And we won't even mention "highest of the... massif."

The mission is called Le Taillefer.

Off we go, after first struggling up endless switchbacks by car, and then on foot in switchbacks

The route we've planned today is called Tête Chevalière (Horseman's Head) and, while it doesn't have a prominent peak, is still quite challenging. Today, for the first time, we have to set out in the fog, anxiously awaiting when and if it will clear. We actually wade through the murky mists the entire

In the valley, near the bakery, a heavy, wet fog lingers, forcing the chill under our jackets—what will the weather be like today? Equipped with fresh baguettes, we drive to the start of the tour. The narrow, serpentine road winds its way up the slope, loop after loop, and just as we reach the parking

On the second day, the first morning in the chalet, the weather looks good, so we set off on the must-do hike of the holiday: the Grand Veymont, which is practically right on our doorstep.

It's the highest mountain in the Vercors (although some smart-asses might say: "not the highest in the nature park

On our first hike in the Vercors, we explore a more northerly section of the route because our accommodation is further south, and the various parts of the region are only accessible with long journeys, either via winding mountain passes or major detours. The tours starting on the "Moosheim Plateau" often have a similar narrative:

We were very fast at first. Even in Rochlitz, two-thirds of the way through, we still had an average speed of 27.5. But from there, it's almost exclusively uphill, and the pace keeps dropping.

We completely messed up our average

I don't know if it's an insider tip, because maybe it isn't, but it's definitely a gem: the Rilke Trail near Duino. (Partly because it's 'small'.)

In the nearby castle, which still belongs to the Thurn and Taxis family, a literary circle once met, which Rilke also frequented. His walks over the steep
