The Prussian architect Carl Schwatlo (1831-1884) became known for his post office buildings. He had lived in Berlin since 1850, where he took the master builder's exam in 1857, taught and worked for the general post office. After the founding of the German Empire in 1871, he became government and building officer for the Reichspost and designed post offices. His main area of responsibility was Berlin with Potsdam, but in the years 1874 and 1875 a post office was also created in Merseburg according to his plans. It impresses with rich forms of historicism, even though it had already suffered losses due to the Second World War and conversions.Source: merseburg.im-bild.org/fotos/Infrastruktur/postamt

The post office is a cultural monument, a clinker building, with a beautifully designed barrel. . Goodbye in the style of Gothic and Renaissance. The building can be admired opposite the train station on König-Keinrich-Strasse.
