  • Central square in the middle of the Mannheim squares. Around the square with its fountain are various stops of various light rail lines. The pedestrian zones of Breiten Straße and Planken meet here. Below the square is a large bunker system from the time of World War II.

  • The Paradeplatz is a central square in downtown Mannheim on the square O 1. It gets its name from the historical fact that it was used for troop parades in the times of the electors, in the 18th century it was called Alarmplatz.
As early as 1717, the first plans for the design of the parade ground were presented as part of the reconstruction of Mannheim after the Palatinate War of Succession. With the construction of the department store (1745) by Elector Carl Philipp to strengthen Mannheim as a trading location, the design of the square was also pushed forward. As part of the design of the square, the Grupello Pyramid, previously located in Düsseldorf, was moved to the location where it still stands today. In 1893 it was provided with a few more bronze statues by Johannes Hoffart and additions and got its current shape. As early as 1895, the Paradeplatz was redesigned and more horticultural elements were added. However, they were not satisfied with this solution. Up to the end of the Second World War there were repeated plans for a redesign. In 1942, a deep bunker was built under the parade ground, destroying the former appearance. After the Second World War, the square lay fallow until the town hall was built. After a long discussion, it was decided in the 1980s to restore the square to its historical condition of 1895.
The Paradeplatz is located in the center of Mannheim's city center. It is bordered on the Neckar-Schloss axis by the Kurpfalzstraße, popularly known as "Breite Straße", and its eastern parallel street as well as two of the most important shopping streets in the city centre, the Planken (the water tower axis) and the Kunststraße. Rows of trees border the sides of the square except towards the townhouse. Ten paths run in a star shape to the Grupello Fountain, cutting through the green areas. The central tram crossing point in Mannheim city center is located directly on Paradeplatz, through which almost all Mannheim light rail lines pass – as well as via the adjacent stops on Breite Straße and Planken.
The Pyramid of Grupello, erected in 1743, stands in the middle of the square.
