At least that's what legends and the witch hunts of the time say. This was particularly active in the years from 1560 to 1630. During this period, according to estimates, up to 100,000 people in the Eifel were tortured and killed as "witches".

On the paths that met at Hexenplatz, the ancestors transported their harvest from the Fens: peat, hay, litter, clay, and maybe wood. Today the meadows, forests and pieces of fens around the Hexenplatz, also known as the Witches Temple, are a protected natural treasure.
