Wreath break
The Kranzbruch is a nature reserve between Simmerath and Konzen.
Formerly a fens and bog forest area, it was drained and planted with spruces in the 19th century, so that the typical fens vegetation disappeared. A few years ago, the area was renaturalized by closing drainage ditches and removing spruce forests so that the original vegetation could prevail.

The designation as a nature reserve serves primarily to preserve valuable wetlands as a habitat for several, u. a. according to the red list of endangered plant and animal species in North Rhine-Westphalia.
