First seat of the bishops of the diocese, when the dignity of the cathedral passed to San Martino at the beginning of the eighth century, it retained the right to the baptismal font and this always made the relationship between the two sacred buildings very close. At the beginning of the 19th century, the church became state property by the Napoleonic government, deprived of its furniture and destined to house the archives of the old Republic. In 1828 it was reopened for worship, but in a much changed situation. Most of the current layout dates from the reconstruction of the second half of the 12th century but the origins are much older.More info at it-m-wikipedia-org.translate.goog/wiki/Chiesa_dei_Santi_Giovanni_e_Reparata?_x_tr_sl=it&_x_tr_tl=nl&_x_tr_hl=nl&_x_tr_pto=sc

not only is the interior of the church beautiful, but - and this is something special - you can go underground and visit excavations. Very interesting and completely free.
