Santa Maria Forisportam, also known as Santa Maria Bianca, is a Romanesque church located on the square of the same name. The name “Forisportam” comes from the Latin “foris portam”, meaning “outside the gate”, referring to the location of an earlier church on this site during Roman times, outside the old city walls. The church, which has three naves with a transept and an apse, was completed in the 12th century. The interior houses several works of art, including two by Guercino, a Santa Lucia and an Assunta. Inside the church there is also a sundial with a "camera oscura".
