The bells of the Protestant church have been hanging in this former watchtower on a corner of the Runkel city wall since 1725.
The bell tower, originally one of the corner towers of the former Burgbering or defensive wall, today known as the city wall, was built around 1350. Corresponding to the Schadecker tower, the Runkel defense tower is also facing Schadeck with the attack side, broken at an obtuse angle. Hence the pentagon shape. It is integrated into the remains of the still-preserved city ring.
