The Rheinterrassen have done it to me. I have included them in my tours several times recently, but only partially. Now I finally wanted to ride the entire Rheinterrassenweg in one tour and that should get a special framework.
So: Start of the tour on the right bank of the Rhine in Mainz-Kastel with crossing the Rhine over the Theodor-Heuss bridge and visiting the Mainz cathedral and at the end of the tour visiting the Worms cathedral with subsequent Rhine crossing over the Nibelungen bridge back to Hesse.

The highlight of the day was this beautiful section on the Hessian Cycle Route R4 starting at the Hessian border to the train station in Höchst i. Odw.
The first kilometers have to be worked out. In the sometimes steep climb on forest roads you start to sweat a little. After approx. 12 kilometers it becomes flatter and you drive in open terrain. What a treat at early summer temperatures and a light cumulus cloud. My grin was as wide as the Odenwald from Bergstrasse to the Main.
The long descent begins at KM 25 and continues in the Mümlingtal via Erbach to the final destination in Höchst. I would have loved to take a few more photos, but my cell phone camera has taken heat-free.
Today, May 21st was an unforgettable day with three beautiful stages
      Heppenheim - Heidelberg: komoot.de/tour/187357375
      Heidelberg - Hirschhorn: komoot.de/tour/187503164
      Hirschhorn - Höchst i. Odw: komoot.de/tour/187623848

Oh, what a good thing it was my old love to see Heidelberg again: everything still there and even more beautiful than over 50 years ago. However, I didn't take much time and the bike path on the left bank is also quite narrow and - understandably - busy.
The traffic conditions should not improve significantly for the first few kilometers. Only from Schlierbach there was a separate cycle path on the towpath and it was a real pleasure to cycle through the scenic Neckar Valley. And the idea was already in my head to simply take the entire Neckar as a guide when visiting again in southern Germany. There is a lot on the line: Marbach, Stuttgart, Plochingen, Tübingen and ...
I actually thought it was a shame to have to take the Neckar bridge in Hirschhorn to get to the Odenwald.
This is the second of three stages, the other two are:
      Heppenheim - Heidelberg: komoot.de/tour/187357375
      and
      Hirschhorn - Höchst i. Odw: komoot.de/tour/187623848

For today's Ascension Day in Corona Seeking 2020, I have resolved to fulfill a long-cherished wish.
As part of my goal of cycling all of the Hessian long-distance cycle routes during the year, the first stage on the R4 is on the agenda. To get to the start in Hirschhorn am Neckar, I chose the combination pensioner ticket and bike. In short: by train to Heppenheim and up on the saddle along the mountain road to take the Heidelberg direction on the Neckartalweg towards Hirschhorn.
Not much needs to be said about this stage: it was a work stage with the best cycling weather and, if I hadn't gotten used to it in the meantime, progress was fairly quick.
No wonder, because I was excited about the following stages:
      Heidelberg - Neckartalradweg - Hirschhorn: komoot.de/tour/187503164
      Hirschhorn - R4 - Höchst i. Or .: komoot.de/tour/187623848

From Langen on proven cycle paths to Rüsselsheim and south of the Flörsheimer Warte, connection to the RheinMain Regional Park. The Regionalpark Rundroute went up to Mainz-Kastel. Over the Theodor-Heuss bridge over the Rhine and on the banks of the Rhine to the south.
In the further course I scored my own goal: My idea was to quickly leave the banks of the Rhine and cycle directly from Mainz on the Rheinterrassenweg. But in a hurry the route was quickly stuck together and a routing came up to Bodenheim directly on the towpath or on the third lane of the busy Uferstrasse. From Bodenheim I finally went to the vineyards and when I reached the Lörzinger Königstuhl my world was fine again. Even more: in the haze lay like Ayers Rock, the Donnersberg and sent me the signal "come here".
After the waiting tower, the descent to Nierstein and the ferry to Kornsand followed. The rest was the shortest route to Langen. In terms of content, there are nicer, but more time-consuming, ways.
Résumé: The idea was good, the implementation was not optimal, so I will revise this tour again and keep it on my agenda.

The initiator of this very nice tour was kjk. He also described it so well that I don't have to add anything to the Limes except my train connections to the start:
      Langen, from 10:16, - Darmstadt to 10:29
      Darmstadt from 10:35 - Schöllenbach 10:02
I used the way home from Höchst to finally ride a piece on the Hessian cycle route R4 again. I reached herring in a moderate climb and so I had to take Veste Otzberg with me. The rest of the route was a pleasant home game, past the Reinheimer Teich and Messel. Here is the tour from kjk: komoot.de/tour/180696250
