Today I hiked into the Hochspessart to see snow at least once.
I started from the hiking car park on Spessarthochstrasse, between Heinrichsthal and Wiesen. From there I turned onto the service road, which I left again immediately because the state forests drove the road so hard that it was pretty slippery. The path then was very nice, but too short, soon I came back to a farm track, typical of the Spessart. I then hike along it down to the Birklergrund. A beautiful valley that is under nature protection. Above the creek we continued to my rest stop, a wonderfully situated hut. After a little snack, I continued along the stream to my actual destination, the old glassworks in Birklergrund.
      Brief information on this:
In 1765, a perfectly rationalized glass factory was founded at the foot of the Birkberg near Wiesen - probably by large French entrepreneurs. The floor plan shows how the fragile trade item was made. The narrow channel in the middle of the structure was the firing channel. Fireproof clay pots stood next to them on fireclay benches. Openings in the combustion chamber allowed liquid glass mass to be removed for further processing. In the four side furnaces - indicated by four butterfly wings in the floor plan - the finished products were allowed to cool down slowly at low temperatures.
The floor plans that have been preserved show the smelting furnace (middle) and the annealing furnaces (on the edge) on the site. The kiln opposite the entrance was used to clean the raw materials (calcination).
What they did back then :-).After a short visit we continued to the grotto, from there a really great path up the Birkberg again. Finally, I made a small detour to the Königer Eichen. At this point there are still a few beautiful old oak trees, which according to the information sign are said to be over 400 years old. A stone monument there commemorates the forest master Anton Königer. Then we went back to the hiking car park on beautiful paths.
It was a nice tour that I would happily recommend.

The same procedure as every year.
      And every time beautiful 😀
Spessartbu senior's birthday hike 🎂. This year we started in Wiesthal, the path led along the Spessartwiesen, past the Aubachseen, to Habichsthal, where we stopped in the fresh spring.
After plenty of food and drink, we walked back to Wiesthal on the other side of the county road over some beautiful nature trails.
Spessartbu senior explained that this is probably the old church path from Habichsthal to Wiesthal, which the inhabitants of Habichsthal used as long as they did not have their own church. So they always had to go to Wiesthal to go to church.
      You can't even imagine today.

Today we went on the short final tour, as rain was reported in the afternoon.
The path led us a little through Ehrwald to the Plattenweg, which leads along above Ehrwald and is actually made entirely of stone slabs. Then it went steeply uphill, first through a beech forest, to the mountain station of the Sonnenhangbahn. From there then turn left on the Ehrwalder Höhenweg, which is freshly gravel and as solid as a road🙄. Really not nice!
Fortunately, the path ends at the Gamsalm, where you can look forward to well-chilled drinks and good food.
Back we walked the direct route to Ehrwald because the clouds looked dangerously dark. As soon as we were in our apartment, it started already 🌧️🌧️🌧️.
