Hiking

There were once 21 border stones or border posts along the Altona and Hamburg borders. They were not numbered, but marked with the letters 'A - V' and were set in 1856.

The boundary stone 'A' stood at the Altona fish market and the last boundary stone in this series with the letter 'V' stood at the border triangle of Altona, Hamburg and Pinneberg at the Eimsbüttel market square.

Hiking

Altona has only been part of Hamburg since 1937. Numerous boundary stones can still be found today - such as here in the shoulder blade street in the Schanzenviertel. This stone from 1889 used to mark the border between Altona and Hamburg.
