The tower-like summer palace was built between 1831 and 1833 on behalf of the owner of the manor, Johann Gottlob von Quandt, an art patron and admirer of Goethe, according to plans by Joseph Thürmer in honor of the poet.
The viewing platform offers a wide panoramic view of the Eastern Ore Mountains, Saxon Switzerland, Stolpen and Upper Lusatia.
