The Königsplatz commemorates King Friedrich August II. Two pedunculate oaks were planted here on April 20, 1855 by King John of Saxony in honor of his father, King Friedrich August II. On April 23, 1898, a 'King Albert of Saxony' spruce followed in honor of King Albert. The scarlet oaks that surround the square were planted on April 30, 1906 by King Friedrich August III in memory of King Albert, King George and himself.
