The house, now located at Fährstraße 17, was built in connection with the construction of the ferry gate. A shared wall with the city wall and the remains of a stove within it are strong indicators. The harbor tavern is therefore likely similar to the old city gate (1278). The first documented mention of the establishment dates back to 1332, in the second Stralsund city register. This makes it the oldest harbor tavern in Europe. Various details of its centuries-old history have been preserved.
