The Trebeltal was the state border between Pomerania and Mecklenburg, which was once difficult to cross and had only a few crossings. The history of the bridge probably goes back to the early 16th century. A bridge over the Trebel built by Degener Bugenhagen near his estate at Nehring is documented for the first time in 1504. However, this was apparently destroyed again after a short time due to disputes between Dukes Bugislaw and Heinrich and one can assume that there was no longer a Trebel crossing here from the end of the 16th century until the construction of the bascule bridge.
