Johanna - the freight locomotive from Jüterbog is a wooden installation in front of the train station in Jüterbog.
The children's book of the same name by Walther Petri from 1978 tells the story of a friendship between train driver Gleistreu and the steam locomotive “Johanna”, which is to be replaced by a new, more powerful locomotive, in colorful pictures. She, who has always done her job reliably and without complaint, doesn't yet feel like she's an old hand.
On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the city of Jüterbog in 2007 and the associated christening of an ICE with the name “Jüterbog”, the book was reprinted and republished by the founder of the SIK-HOLZ company, Klaus-Peter Gust. In this context, the sculpture was also designed and installed by the employees of this company. The artistic ensemble made of oak has become a landmark for the city.
