The Nikolaikirchhof war memorial is located south of the Nikolaikirche on the churchyard. A war memorial was planned as early as 1921, but it was not until 1923 that concrete plans by architect Freydank and government building advisor Lehmann began. It was built by master builder Wilhelm Pilz and the company Schaefer & Co., with the inauguration taking place on October 28, 1923.
