Walter Gropius, founder and director of the Weimar Bauhaus, set up the ceramic workshop at his art school in Dornburg in 1920. The history of Bauhaus pottery only lasted five years, but during this time a new vessel aesthetic of European standing was developed here under the simplest of conditions.
