In 1833, a level with the water level of the Rhine was housed in the north-west tower of the Electoral Castle, also known as the Old Castle or Balduinsburg, where it is still today. In addition to two level gauges on the quay wall, there is now also an electronic level indicator in Boppard. The bar graph of the level is located at the entrance door in the basement of the Old Castle Museum, approx. 60 m east of the Boppard-Filsen ferry dock. The level meter in Boppard is operated by the Bingen Waterways and Shipping Authority.
