With the help of a dowser, in 1869, this was found near the Forsthaus Hinterdickt (later Forsthaus Buchenau), where a spring gushed out at shallow depths. To secure this well chamber, a curved "protective roof" was built from quarry stones.

          Well house from 1869

It is easy to understand that in the second half of the 19th century it was difficult to live in the nearby municipal forester's house in Hinterdickt (built in 1865), where no water was possible in the vicinity. Forester Friedrich Wilhelm Delaforgue, who as the city forester had to use the forester's house as an official residence, laboriously obtained the fresh water he needed in the early years with a handcart from a spring near Grünfeldswiese, about a kilometer away. With the help of a dowser, the place near the forester's house was found in 1869, where a spring gushed at a relatively shallow depth. To secure the well room, an arched "protective roof" was built from rubble stones from the city quarry. This finally resolved the water shortage in the forester's house in Hinterdickt, which was renamed the forester's house in Buchenau at that time. In later years, an above-ground clay pipeline was also laid from the well room down to the forester's house. Source: Text information board

In 1869 a spring was discovered here with the help of a dowser and covered for protection.
There is a rest area next to the well room.
