The Stone Man at Boppard
The name comes from the rock formation that is only recognizable from the side of the Rhine. The natural formation resembles a petrified face, whereby the bulge of the eyes, nose and chin area are quite clearly recognizable when the green vegetation has been cut back. H.H. In his collection of songs and legends published in 1890, Mönch also immortalized the Stone Man at Boppard in verse:
It came on his trains
Hero Bacchus to the Rhine.
Hey, what a pleasure
He found our wine!
You never saw such a boozer,
Since then the wine press has swelled.
He grabs and swirls as a mug
A barrel, heavy and full.
The people are seized with horror;
You shouted and wrung your hand:
"Gesell ', you drink us today
All the wine in the country! "
But the drinker slurred
And still drank more.
Until a voice rang out
From the high heaven:
"Daring drinking fellow,
Now end your feast!
Fall asleep at this point!
Sleep until the last day! "
The drinker hears the words
Rise, fall silent, fall asleep!
His gigantic body withered
His face turned to stone.

Nice viewpoint with a great view of the Rhine Valley. The lookout point takes its name from the face of the rock, reminiscent of a face ...
