It is one of the few surviving cemetery complexes of the Renaissance in central Germany. It was built in 1591 and was in use until 1861.
The arcade lined
Cemetery is one of the so-called Camposanto cemeteries, which were created in many places from the 15th century. Today, only the Crown Cemetery in Eisleben and the Stadtgottesacker in Halle an der Saale are preserved in the region next to the Buttstädter.
The Camposanto is selected as the outer location of the BUGA 2021 in Erfurt.

Buttstädt's Camposanto will be a branch of the Buga in 2021 and is lovingly maintained by an association. The cemetery is built in the Renaissance style with arcades and tombs from the 16th-19th centuries. It is one of only three similar cemeteries in Germany.
Definitely worth seeing.
