Used the sunny Sunday afternoon hours to pay a visit to the grandmother in Friedrichroda and at the same time to enjoy the wonderful and beautiful colorful season. Since we hadn't thought of a flashlight, of course, but had a vaccination card and mask with us, we took the train home😉.

... it was Sunday and actually we didn't feel like putting on our hiking boots today😂 - so plan B ... After a hearty breakfast we visited the Veste Coburg and spent "only" 3 hours there - you can easily do the whole thing Stay the day and haven't seen everything yet. After a stroll through the courtyard garden, we enjoyed a delicious coffee and a sausage roasted over pine cones. Then it went to Thuringia

A weekend trip to Coburg😊. Our plan was to hike the Coburg circular route of approx. 35 km in two days. On a sunny Saturday we walked the northern part, which offers more sights. From Scheuerfeld to Löbelstein and then across the historic old town of Coburg back to our very recommendable small & familiar hotel (Hotel Löhnert) in Scheuerfeld. The southern part of the circular route was supposed to follow on Sunday, but it turned out differently😆 ....

We used the day of German unity to visit our district town Gotha again. We criss-crossed through the city center and past many historical and remarkable buildings of Gotha. To celebrate the day & my birthday present was finally 🤣 a visit to the cinema📽 again

In super sunny weather and 19 degrees, we took on the first part of the hall horizontal today. We started at the Platanenstrasse stop in Lobeda-Ost. It goes quickly up to the ruins of the Lobdeburg and further uphill to the Johannisberg. The remains of a Slavic rampart can be seen on top of the plateau. On the way there are wonderful views of Drackendorf and Lobeda all the way to the Leuchtenburg near Kahla. The path runs along a wide meadow directly along the edge of the forest, with a view of the summer linden tree, and then leads through the forest down into Pennickental to the shady Fürstenbrunnen. In some places the horizontal path becomes narrow and runs close to the rock. Here you should definitely be sure-footed and free from giddiness! Past the thief's crib and student slide we came to the copper plate. The horizontal line leads through dense beech forest into the Ziegenhain valley. From Ziegenhain steeply uphill, it finally went to the Fuchsturm - a former donjon. A lookout tower (with 116 steps) awaited us there with a great all-round view of the Saale valley. The restaurant is a top address: nice & quick staff and delicious food. After this rest, it went steadily downhill in the direction of Jena through a beautiful mixed pine / beech forest. From there we first took the bus to the center of Jena and then took tram no. 5 back to Lobeda.

Before the BUGA 2021 in Erfurt closes its doors, a quick visit again😊💚🌸. I was amazed that there was such a stream of visitors on a Wednesday. There was a lot to discover and the photos can't reproduce it that well. We then took the tram to the Domplatz, where the Oktoberfest is currently taking place. The adjacent Petersberg is a BUGA branch and is also well worth seeing.

In beautiful sunny weather and at the end of the holiday, a small but nice stroll through Eschwege🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ - a Hessian half-timbered pearl on the Werra😊. We climbed the Nikolaiturm over 160 steps 😅 all the way to the top and had a wonderful view over Eschwege, to the Hoher Meißner and as far as Thuringia💚. We also looked at the Landgrave's Castle (seat of the district administrator of the Werra-Meißner district) and the market church of St. Dionysius. The Sophien Garten is located on the edge of the old town. The garden lies behind a sandstone wall that is over 500 years old and is an oasis of calm in the middle of the city - a joy for all the senses😄. Small bordered beds, water points, rose arches and various sitting areas invite you to linger. In the Hemingway restaurant we enjoyed our culinary delights at the end.

The Hirschhagen theme trail: from one of the largest explosives factories of the Third Reich to the industrial area.
The building contract was placed on September 17, 1935. The factory was built close to the forest for camouflage purposes and for this reason the single-storey buildings had green flat roofs. A total of 142,000 tons of TNT were produced and filled into bombs, mines and grenades on site. The yellow dust from the explosives dyed the workers' hair and skin yellow, which is why they were also called "canaries". In 1944/45 approx. 11,700 workers (including prisoners, concentration camp inmates ...) worked daily (also Sat + Sun) for up to 10.5 hours and more. The arrival and departure from the residential camps was added to this. Back then, the productivity of the explosives factory took precedence over environmental protection - cost-intensive soil and water treatment are still necessary today.
148 buildings were destroyed by the Americans after the end of the war. From 1946 the first smaller companies settled on this site. Between 1992 and 2009, the state of Hesse provided approx. 102 million euros for the rehabilitation of the old armaments site.
A place steeped in history from a dark piece of German past that made a great impression on us.
PS: sorry that the text on the boards is so difficult or impossible to read ... everything was legible on my mobile phone pictures🤔

Here in the mountains of the Hohe Meißner, Mrs. Holle is at home and in no other place as often as in Hessisch Lichtenau - our vacation spot. The Frau Holle circular route shows both the legends and the fairy tale characters in connection with the history of the city at 12 stations. The circular route led us through the city park and the old town. After a sporty insert (see pictures 🤣) the way led us to the carp catching pond. We finally reached the Hellkopfsee (a popular fishing lake 🐟🐠🐡) over meadows and through wooded areas. After a short rest, we went back towards Hessisch Lichtenau. At the end of our tour we discover "cloud seats" (created by the master wood sculptor Erich Zimmer). The relationship to Frau Holle is obvious - the "cloud seats" symbolize snow clouds.

A short visit to Korbach (twin town of our hometown). Great half-timbered houses, two Gothic hall churches, an imposing town hall, a circular route "Between the Walls" and the "Goldspur Korbach" through the historic old town bring the city's history to life. We liked it a lot
