The Riquet House was built in 1908-1909 as a commercial building and was in turn one of the most modern and original new buildings in Leipzig. The tradition of Riquet dates back to 1745.

The inside of the café is also very nice and worth seeing. There are various cakes and pies that are presented nicely. The breakfast is very good and plentiful. The waiting time for breakfast is unfortunately a bit long. But that was the case for us in several locations in Leipzig, I think that's normal here 😬🙈

A strange-looking old commercial building in the city center and far from the old stock exchange

The name Riquet is based on a French Huguenot family who emigrated from France. The descendants operated a coffee, tea and spice trade. Later, a cocoa production followed. A fantastic building.

The former commercial building was built in 1908 and 1909 on behalf of the Riquet & Co. company and was one of the most modern and original new buildings in Leipzig at the time. The two copper-driven elephant heads that flank the entrance door to the coffee house are the trademark of the Riquet company. Since the restoration, you can admire the listed interior of the corner store in all its beauty.

Riquet & Co. AG was a manufacturer and sole distributor of cocoa, chocolates, pralines and sweets in Leipzig and Gautzsch. It was also tea, chinaware and oriental goods.
