Each Tongeren craft guild was responsible for the maintenance and defence of 1 of the 13 towers of the medieval wall. One of the towers that survived the centuries was that of the cloth makers, the Lakenmakerstoren. This picturesque tower was part of the defence wall along the Jeker, between the Kastanjewal and Sint-Ursulastraat. The semi-circular construction is mainly made of flint, a material from the original Roman wall.

Each craft guild in Tongeren was responsible for the maintenance and defense of one of the 13 towers of the medieval wall. Among the gates that have survived over the centuries is the Tower of the Drapers. This picturesque tower was part of the defensive wall along the Jeker River, between Kastanjewal and Sint-Ursulastraat.
