The picturesque village of Zammelen, a sub-municipality of Kortessem, lies on the edge of the Haspengouw loam plateau and in the valley of the meandering Mombeek. A combination of water, loam, lime and sand in the soil creates a nature reserve with alternating meadows, typical hayfields, mysterious marshes and swamp forests.
