Maternus (4th century; died ca. 328), also referred to as Sint-Maternus, Maternus van Keulen or Maternus van Tongeren, was the third bishop of Trier and is also considered the first bishop of both Cologne and Tongeren. He is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. He is invoked as the patron saint against fever and infectious diseases and is also the patron saint of winegrowers. His feast day is on September 14
