For centuries, the Castillo de San Gabriel fortress has stood proudly in the bay of Arrecife, in northeastern Lanzarote. Originally built to protect the island from pirate attacks, visitors today come for a different reason. The fortress is accessible via two bridges: the older of the two, Puente de Las Bolas, together with the fortress, offers a popular photo opportunity. No visitor to the city should miss a visit here.
