The former monastery church of the Sint Bonifatiusklooster can be seen as an outline in the paving.

Saint Boniface Monastery in Dokkum, founded around 760 as a chapter (of Augustinian canons, converted from Mariëngaarde into a provostship of Premonstratensian men, around 1170 – 1580. In 1290 the monastery would have had 400 inhabitants, from Wikipedia.

Premonstratensians or Norbertines
Also called Witheren. The monks usually called themselves canons and canonesses; the name monks and nuns was reserved for the converses or lay brothers and sisters. The men's monasteries or provostships were not led by an abbot, but by a provost; the women's monasteries or priories by a prior. In 1290 the inhabitants of Premonstratensian monasteries in Friesland, Groningen and East Friesland were counted: the number of monks mentioned is on the high side; possibly farming families dependent on the monastery were included.
