The Lobdeburg was already a ruin in Goethe's time and was lyrically processed by him in the poem "Bergschloss". Below the ruins is the Lobdeburgklause with a beautiful beer garden.

Not much left, the Romanesque architectural style is still easy to recognize. Great view of Jena.

An interesting little ruin, which should be on one of the many hikes around Jena. Afterwards the associated restaurant is not far away. ^^

Currently, the Lobdeburg is being renovated, a fence protects a large area around the ruins. However, one has a very good view over Jena and can then stop off in the restaurant.

The Lobdeburg is a ruined castle between Lobeda and Drackendorf, districts of Jena.
Three different buildings claim the name Lobdeburg, namely the upper, middle and lower castle. The middle of the three castles is regarded as the actual Lobdeburg.

With much effort one tries to contain the decay of the ruin.

Thank you for the photos of the interior of the castle, which would be difficult to discover now through the fence

A very easy to reach castle which already reveals beautiful views of the city of Jena.

I've always seen the castle from the autobahn, but only now visited it when I was staying at the university hospital (about 4km there and back). There is a fairly easy way via the Goethepark Drackendorf.
When descending the narrow path (to the left of the restaurant - fruit trees and meadow) you should make sure you have good shoes. It is sometimes quite slippery and steep (so not extremely problematic, but with my hospital shoes it was a bit suboptimal at the beginning of April...)

The walk around the castle is worth it. This is the only way to see the ruins from behind.

The castle is beautiful to look at. Worth a detour.
