Middle Horizontal Path below the Johannisberg

Good footwear is necessary

once you're at the top, it's flat with very few small climbs and descents between the Spitzberg and the beginning of the Pennikental below the Johannisberg plateau. Many benches invite you to rest and you have beautiful views from almost everywhere, either down to the Saale valley or to the opposite mountain ranges. Mountain biking is also quite good here, but it is advisable to do it during the week, since the path on the WE is quite frequented by hikers and it is not always easy to dodge the narrow path. Especially below the rocks of the Johannisberg the path is so narrow that you can hardly get off your bike and since the path is in no way secured downwards, it is advisable to only ride here if you are really comfortable with your bike.

Such a beautiful hiking trail, but sturdy shoes, surefootedness and a head for heights are very beneficial here.
