This stone monument, created in 1996 by the sculptors Călin Baciu and Septimiu Enghis, is dedicated to the Romanian-Hungarian historian and politician Nicolaus Olahus (1493-1568). In his youth, Olahus was an advisor to King Louis II and to Queen Mary of Hungary, who was also Regent of the Netherlands. Olahus held several administrative positions in the Kingdom of Hungary, including Governor of the Netherlands and then Royal Chancellor. A Roman Catholic priest, Olahus was Bishop of Zagreb, Bishop of Cheb and then Archbishop of Strigoniu. In this capacity, he crowned Maximilian King of Hungary.
