Afi Mountain in Hanover Zoo is not a pure fantasy world, but is based on an example from Africa. In the south-east of Nigeria is the Cross River National Park, which includes the Afi Mountain Forest Reserve. Here the organization Pandrillus together with the Nigerian government founded the Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary. The adventure zoo and the association Rettet den Drill e.V. support Pandrillus in the work on site to protect the drill in its natural habitat.
