It was built around 1200 as a large Romanesque church in today's UMfang, it was burnt down in 1424 during the conquest hattingens and rebuilt as a Gothic church. Around 1810, the conversion to a classicist hall church.

If the tower were struck by lightning or caught fire, you couldn't extinguish it up there, so the burning tower shouldn't crash on the church, but on the houses around it, which could be rebuilt faster.
