The newly created lake right behind the train station will be a real gem. It is currently under construction

The Anlagensee is an artificial lake in Tübingen. It is the central object of the "Municipal Facilities" in the immediate vicinity of the main train station.
The body of water, which is around two hectares in size, up to three meters deep and has a capacity of around 50 million liters, is located in the park at the Anlagensee south of the Neckar, which is bordered to the north by Uhlandstrasse and to the south by Europastrasse. The Anlagensee is fed on its western side by the Mühlbach coming from the direction of Derendingen and is connected to the Neckar by an outflow in the east.
The park surrounding the lake is mainly used by walkers and includes an adventure playground. Directly adjacent to the park are the three oldest high schools in Tübingen: the Uhland-Gymnasium and the Kepler-Gymnasium on Uhlandstrasse and the Wildermuth-Gymnasium on Derendinger Allee.
The idea for the construction of the Anlagensee was put forward by the city's citizens' association in 1901. In connection with the planned correction of the Neckar, the aim was to enrich the park located immediately northwest of the main station and also to prevent it from being built on. The Middle Wöhrd (Neckar meadows), which had previously been plagued by flooding, would then have been suitable for building on. As the ground there was very muddy, digging the basin took longer than planned, namely from 1906 to 1908. When the pit was finished, the banks were planted in 1908. Some trees were also replanted from the Lower Wöhrd to the Anlagensee. The park surrounding the lake was designed by the university gardener Ernst Schelle in 1906 and laid out in the following years. In 1926, the so-called Dannecker Nymph Group (a copy of the water and meadow nymph by the sculptor Johann Heinrich Dannecker) was erected in the lake near the northern bank.
