The Polish architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski saved numerous monuments in Vietnam, which are now on the UNESCO World Heritage List. He is responsible for the renovation and preservation of the historical city "Hội An". In his honor, the square bears his name.

Since the early 1980s, he volunteered to visit Vietnam to study the archaeological remains in Mỹ Sơn, where he also stayed the longest during his time in Vietnam - almost 16 years. In 1981, Kwiatkowski began working in Hội An and immediately recognized the potential of this city. He researched and prepared, together with Vietnamese experts, a program to restore medieval works of the Cham culture in central Vietnam.
