Hiking
The Welfengarten is a park behind the Welfen Castle, now home to Leibniz University. It was laid out in 1720 as the garden of the Montbrillant pleasure palace, which was demolished in the 19th century. Today, it primarily serves as a break and recreation area for university students. Residents of the adjacent northern part of the city also use it. Furthermore, it provides the shortest connection between various university departments and is the route many students take to the cafeteria.
