History: Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha had the Windsor Farm established around 1850 as an agricultural chemical experimental station and for the testing of seeds, feed, and artificial fertilizers. It became a model for other model farms.

After Albert's early death, his brother, Duke Ernst II, had two similar model farms built in Coburg: from 1861 to 1863 on the edge of the park of Callenberg Castle, and in 1878, the Ernst Farm west of Coburg. The two Coburg model farms testified to the fundamental changes in agriculture during the 19th century.

The Ernst Farm has been abandoned since the end of 2023, the lease expiring. For years, it housed a craftsmen's farm and an event venue. There was always something going on: weddings were celebrated, artisans and designers created their art. A restaurant invited visitors to stop by, and customers at a whisky shop could even sample whisky and cider. Concerts were even held.

The Forestry and Domain Office is now urgently looking for a new tenant for the former model farm. There are many ideas, but no investor yet. The former farm should definitely not become a lost place.

The Ernst Farm was built as a model farm based on the English model. However, the farm has long since ceased operations. Today, it is a craftsmen's farm with a horse-boarding station and a simple restaurant, the Handwerkerstube.

As of 2025: The Ernst Farm is vacant, and an investor with a concept is finally being sought. The structural condition is being secured. Sorry, the "lost place" thing is just nonsense.
