The Swede-Bure has been a haven for inhabitants of Upper Wesel for centuries. During the Thirty Years' War, the five-meter deep caves in the rocks were used mainly by women for protection against the Swedes. This is where the name "Schwedenlöcher" comes in. Later, couples of love use the caves as a meeting place and carve their love expressions in the Schieferfels.You can read more on an information board or perpetuate yourself on slate.
